The Mannequin Experiment

The idea of the activity was having a group of two, each group given words associated with symptoms of either depression and anxiety. And they had to place the word with blue tack on a small mannequin (big mannequin for actual lesson) of where the symptom would develop or found wether it would be the head, chest, arms, legs or hands.

Trouble concentrating

Fatigue

Loss of interest

Overeating or appetite loss

Headaches

Pessimism

Sleep problems

Numbness and tingling

Shortness of breath

Heart palpitations

Dry mouth

Nausea

Tense muscles

Dizziness

The mannequin experiment was a better result compared to the anagram activity because it was better in terms preparation and created more conversation however it still convey a depressing vibe. The feedback we got from the experiment from our peers was that the activity was fun but was conveying more of a therapeutic feel then for entertainment purpose like a game.

The Anagram Experiment

The idea of the anagram test activity was to guess the word which  either represents symptom of either depression or anxiety  and the letters are scrambled together.

The words used are tearful, fatigue, headaches, dizziness and numbness. The game was good fun with my course colleagues but it was taking too long to identify what the word is and a lack of preparation did not help either as we left letters out of a word which confused the group. To an addition this made the activity depressing and less exciting, even though our course group enjoyed the funny side of the experiment it might not appeal to our target audience.

Solving A Problem (Secondary Research)

  • “I’ve suffered through depression and anxiety my entire life. I just want these kids to know that depth that they feel as a human being is normal”

– Lady GaGa

  • “Depression never discriminates. It took me a long time to realise it but the key is not to be afraid to open up”

Dwayne Johnson

  • “Depression really got my life off track, but today I am living proof that someone can live, love and be well”

Demi Lovato

We thought using celebrity quotes would be a good idea because it might be very uplifting to the target audience, the idea was to convey that even though you go through a lot of negative vibes in their life they manage to stay at the top or even higher.

This activity was inspired by the game show ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here’, the idea of this is to guess the percentage of the question being given. We feel that this can create dialogue within the group, working as a team, creating conversation and also engaging with the target audience.
